Magistrates Tipped On Land Justice

More than 25 Judicial Officers at the rank of Chief Magistrates and Magistrates Grade One based in Northern Uganda underwent a two-day training on land justice at Bomah Hotel in Gulu District.

The training was flagged off by the Judicial Training Institute's Executive Director, Hon. Lady Justice Damalie N. Lwanga. The Gulu Resident Judge, Hon. Justice George Okello, also participated in the training.

The participants were taken through various topics such as; Land Tenure Systems in Uganda and the Effects of Overlapping Rights on Adjudication of Land Cases by Hon.Lady Justice Dr Winfred Nabisinde, sharing experiences by participants in handling land management disputes moderated by HW Mary Kaitesi, the Registrar JTI.

Deputy Registrar Magistrates Affairs and Data Management, HW James Ereemye Mawanda handled the Jurisdiction of Magistrates in Land Disputes: Good Practices; Handling the Process of Visiting Locus in quo by Hon. Lady Justice Lwanga, the role of Different Actors in Land Transactions and Execution of Court Orders in Land Matters.

Hon. Lady Justice Dr Winfred Nabisinde, Deputy Registrar Research, HW Dr Gladys Nakibuule also facilitated in the training. Magistrates Grade One attached to JTI, HW Naigaga Kyobika Winnie and HW Jackline Kagoya equally took part.

HW Kaitesi moderated the training.
